Learn about the Norsul professions honored in the month of May
The beginning of May is marked by Labor Day. The date was conquered in a historical way, consolidated in Brazil in 1924. And it is a special day to celebrate and pay tribute to all the professionals who move the giant and proud Norsul.
Over the past month, the company has organized the #ProudOfMyWork series, with posts on Facebook and LinkedIn about important roles in shipping and logistics. And, besides the sea, they talked about new business and the moment of expansion that the company is experiencing.
Below, learn more about strategic positions that offer integrated logistics solutions at Norsul:
Carlos Alberto dos Santos – Steward
To begin with, we introduce the function of a steward. According to Carlos Alberto dos Santos, the Steward is the key to harmony and integration on the ship. He is responsible for assisting in food preparation, menu preparation, and kitchen organization. Controlling the validity of goods, performing the cleaning and organization of the cabins, linen and hygiene items. The function cares about the physical and emotional well-being of all seafarers, so that they can perform their role in the best way and ensure good results for the customers and the company.
Rodrigo Teixeira – Second Nautical Officer
According to Rodrigo Teixeira, the Second Nautical Officer is responsible for a ship’s navigation service. This Officer controls the cargo operations in the ports and also the maintenance of the security equipment. Daily, the service is performed in two 4-hour periods, with 8-hour intervals in between.
Among his activities, one of the attributions is to check the conditions of items such as life jackets and life buoys, as well as fire fighting devices. Overall, the work helps to ensure that the transportation of cargo is done as safely as possible, both for the vessel and the crew.
Wbiraci Silva de Figueiredo – Machine Driving
One of the professions present in maritime operations that helps to ensure the perfect functioning of the vessels is the Engine Seaman. Wbiraci Silva de Figueiredo is an Engine Seaman at Norsul and helps to ensure the safety of people, the vessel, and environmental protection.
His routine includes checking and maintaining the ships’ equipment, tanks, and machinery, daily rounds to detect possible leaks and noises, and participating in the ships’ berthing and unberthing maneuvers.

Fabiano Santiago – Occupational Safety
Fabiano Santiago acts as Occupational Safety Coordinator, which consists in giving all the support to the team of safety technicians, such as:

The sector is responsible for managing, planning, and guiding the activities related to quality, work safety, environment, and health, by preparing and managing the area’s strategic planning in line with the corporate guidelines. This way, processes, training, and licenses are executed in a safe way and according to Norsul’s needs.
Renan Bastos – Removal
Renan Bastos, Chartering Analyst, is part of the sector responsible for the transportation of liquid bulk in coastal trade and long course navigation, mainly between Argentina and Brazil. The routine includes taking care of logistics for clients ranging from the petrochemical industry to the food sector, being the bridge between the operation and the company’s commercial department. The function is extremely important, since it meets the demands of Norsul’s clients so that they can meet the demands of their own clients.
The sector also defines the appropriate ships for transporting the cargo and manages the logistics. This includes making sure that the cargo is transported correctly and safely, taking into account environmental and safety regulations. It is necessary to always anticipate customer needs and propose new business opportunities, with the responsibility that the operation is faithful to what was contracted.
Mateus Lyro – Fleet
Mateus Lyro, Fleet Technical Coordinator, reports that his activities are related to the technical management of assets, ensuring that they meet the company’s commercial interests through safe and efficient operation. And, in to achieve the established goals, it supports the team and crew in the maintenance planning, aiming at the maximum availability of the vessels and the fulfillment of the annual budget. In addition, he is responsible for conducting routine inspections of the fleet, noting points of improvement and ensuring compliance with current regulations in the maritime industry.
Mateus participated as a leader in the implementation of the Energy Efficiency Project at Norsul, which encourages the development and prospecting of new technologies to improve vessel performance. Through innovative solutions such as the reduction of fuel consumption and pollutant gas emissions, the action aligned the company’s culture with the goal of preserving the environment and anticipating regulations that will come into effect in 2023.
Leila Pires – Commercial
Leila Pires is the Commercial Manager at Norsul, the area that is the gateway to the clients, which makes the team always attentive to their needs and searching for optimized solutions for their demands. In this role, it is necessary to understand the particularities of each business to generate value for both the company and the client; and, above all, to contribute to the country’s growth through coastal trade or multimodality.
The routine of the function is dynamic, with the management of current contracts and the capture of new demands, seeking resources to meet them in the best way. After the contracts are closed, contact is made with the Operations area, which follows up on what was proposed. And, when the client’s solution involves logistics integration, Commercial collaborates with the New Business area.
Gustavo Cordeiro – Operations
Gustavo Cordeiro is Norsul’s Operations Coordinator, responsible for coordinating the operational teams and service providers, making sure that the activities are carried out according to the company’s criteria and the clients’ needs.
The routine includes assisting in the planning, organization, and coordination of maneuvering operations for berthing, undocking, shifting, loading, unloading, ballasting, fueling, and docking of vessels. He also helps in the planning, coordination, and loading of barges, in the supply of material for use and replacement, as well as providing training to all involved for the best execution of the activities. The Traffic sector is fundamental to keep Norsul’s operations in full fluidity: to meet the clients’ demands and offer the necessary support to the employees in a way that is committed to results.
Ricardo Nuno – Solution Design
Ricardo Nuno is Executive Manager of the Solution Design area. The function aims to support the commercial team of the New Business area, building land and maritime logistics solutions that meet the needs identified in customers from different segments, or even in the market. The support ranges from verification of technical requirements to project execution.
The sector is extremely important, and so is everyone who is part of it. It is the connector between the company’s resources and services with strategies for the future: to make Norsul a complete logistics integrator.
